CCA and Kaleidoscope are pleased to present a performance by Patrick Staff on at the Kaleidoscope Venice Bar on Friday, May 31st, at 6 pm, The Figa Hand. In The Figa Hand, Staff uses improvised dance, video, sound, and spoken word. In this work, the artist furthers his approach to research as a performative act in itself. It explores the scrap metal industry and recent changes in its economy, both legal and illegal, driven by shifts in global trade. Staff is a London-based artist working with video, installation, performance and publishing. Previous projects have explored social spaces and historical alternatives to industrial and late capitalist society, counter-culture and alternative forms of community building. He frequently collaborates with other artists, historians, actors/dancers and public participants. Staff was a Lux Associate Artist in 2010/11 and has presented exhibitions, performances and screenings internationally, including International Project Space, Birmingham (2013); the Tanks at Tate Modern, London (2012); Whitstable Biennial (2012), and Monte Vista Projects, Los Angeles (2012). At the core of a platform that includes an exhibition space and an independent publishing house, Kaleidoscope is an international quarterly of contemporary art and culture founded in Milan in 2009. Kaleidoscope Venice Bar will run during the preview days of the 55th edition of the Venice Biennale, May 29th to 31st, 6 to 9 pm. Click here to see a map.
