CCA Research Associate Lucy Grubb presents a new body of work, DRRAAWINGGGG(drawing)

Drawing1

Introducing a new body of work by current CCA Research Associate Lucy Grubb, entitled DRRAAWINGGGG(drawing).

This work is a series of scanned drawings made on trains / buses / walks and in airports, and proposes new ways of imagining pre-existing structures and architectures in public spaces and cities.

Claude Cahun’s 1930s provocation, “A beat. Full stop. New paragraph. I’ll start again.”, could consider ‘rehearsal’ as a alternative curatorial methodology as it is through the prescribed language structure of repeating / re-arranging / pausing / stopping and re-making, that we could use Cahun’s provocation as a thought-object when thinking about drawing as a space of provisionality, rehearsal, and re-imagination.

Through drawing (as a site of rehearsal), pre-existing forms can be altered and re-imagined to allow for other things / items / objects / writings and elements to be proposed.

Lucy Grubb is an artist based in Coventry, UK. She completed her MFA at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford in 2022. Her current thoughts are interested in using shifting, and gesture as compositional devices where potentialities are imagined. Through language and architecture works combine to reconsider modes of production as a rehearsal space where thoughts slip, slide, refuse, relate and hold. In July 2022 she was a graduate researcher with Paul Mellon Centre x Yale School of Art where she organised, COMMON-NOTE(S) - an experimental ground for unpublished thinking and writing. She has previously published in Art Review Oxford, and Must Use Critical Knowledge (M.U.C.K).
