'SEAMS' launches Friday 31 March 2023

CCA Derry~Londonderry's latest exhibition SEAMS by artist Laura Wilson launches this Friday at 7–9pm! The show brings together three bodies of work by the artist including new work inspired by her research into her ancestry, finding generations of Portadown and Lisburn linen weavers. Winding, then Winding charts Laura learning to weave over the past 18 months. Included in the exhibition is a large piece of weaving that captures the daily rhythms of the first months of her newborn as she changed yarn or pattern with each break in weaving, mapping the rhythms of feeding, changing and soothing her new baby.

The day after the launch, Saturday 1 April 2023, 1–3pm, Laura will be teaching her mother Alex Wilson to use her table loom live in the gallery. This begins a collaborative piece of weaving and other weavers are invited to contribute to the weave during the run of the exhibition.
