THIS WEEKEND: Walking Through Felt Drawing
CCA Derry~Londonderry is pleased to be part of DCSDC's Inside Out Initiative with artist Kiera O'Toole. On Saturday 3 July 2021, artist Kiera O'Toole will be creating a new public site-responsive abstract drawing in Derry~Londonderry. The following day on Sunday 4 July 2021 you are invited to interactively draw with Kiera's drawings or to make your own through a series of free pop-up public workshops at both the drawing and different sites across Derry~Londonderry.
Kiera is an independent visual artist and doctoral researcher at Loughborough University. She considers herself to be a 'patheur' - someone who follows their intuitive impulses and makes drawings that must be felt rather than cognitively understood. Combining fieldwork, material and philosophical research, Kiera creates ephemeral site-specific drawings in public spaces. She's interested in drawing's capacity to reveal the non-representational aspects of our world through recording the 'emotional vibrations' of a place. In this way, the place becomes a co-creator of the drawing.
Chalk will be provided for all participants and safety measures will be in place to ensure a Covid-safe event. Please bring your own face covering. You can join in the pop-up workshops with Kiera on Artillery Street, Quayside and Ebrington Square. Keep an eye on @CCADLD for updates.
