CCA Introducing: Ellie Towers
On Monday 6 December 2021 from 10am, follow artist Ellie Towers as she takes over our Instagram and Twitter pages to share her work and research for CCA Introducing 2021. CCA Introducing is a series of 24 hour social media takeovers by emerging artists. Each artist has been nominated by an artist or curator connected to CCA. The recommendation to invite Ellie to participate in CCA Introducing came from Roy Claire Potter, who contributed to Sarah Pierce's No Title publication for the exhibition of the same name.
Combining fiction with personal reference, my practice uses set-like structures to accompany narration inside the handcrafted environments that I construct both digitally and physically alongside my co-creator Reece Griffiths. Warping the accustomed associations with spaces such as parks, town centers, or the home by extracting and re-imagining totems and visuals from our own every-day, our works mirror a basic dream-logic as we intuitively recycle visuals and experiences. The result is often a type of space for people to move through - whether it be in an installational, game-based or film-style context - and aims to challenge convention and expectation along the way, through oblique enquiries into gender, sexuality and interpersonal relations.
Sharing visuals and excerpts from my various recent projects, including the SPUR.World Programme and my work for Liverpool's LightNight, this takeover aims to follow my show with Convenience Gallery, giving a behind the scenes look into the project which launches in November and concludes at the start of this December.
