CCA Introducing: Miss Mary Jane

Hailing from Derry~Londonderry, Miss Mary Jane is a practicing visual artist and musician who explores the intersection of identity, gender, sexuality and visual iconography.

Through a secondary lens based medium, Miss Mary Jane’s practice is rooted within performance, and creates lasting physical and digital outcomes that showcase the complexities of sexuality, gender and identity.

At the core of Miss Mary Jane’s artistic practice is the utilisation of their personal drag alias as an art form. As a female presenting drag performer and a gay man, the artist is fascinated by the complexities that exist within contemporary society regarding sexual expression and identity.; as a result of societal patriarchal structures and misogynistic attitudes deep rooted in the cultural and political climate we find ourselves in today globally.
