CCA Introducing: Ronan Smyth

We’re excited to announce the next artist taking part in CCA Introducing, Ronan Smyth. Ronan is an artist based in Belfast, and is currently completing a practice-based PhD with Belfast School of Art. Ronan will be taking over CCA's Instagram on Thursday 14 March 2024. 

Ronan has been nominated to take part in CCA Introducing by Cecelia Graham, CCA’s Marketing and Digital Programmes Coordinator.

Ronan explores themes of displacement and material consumption that blur the hierarchical divisions between fine art, craft and design-based disciplines, often combining clay, fibre, woodwork and drawing. Investigating countercultural relationships between the amateur maker and the decorative surface, Ronan reimagines the marginalised histories of DIY, self-taught and hobbyist pursuits, exposing haptic processes that can equally ridicule and revere social connotations of the handmade.
