Crios Belt

This workshop draws upon the themes of weaving, textiles and the passing-on of skills associated with traditional Irish heritage crafts. It will give participants the opportunity to work with their hands, learn a new skill and make their own Crios belts. These traditional hand woven belts were particularly associated with the Aran Islands. Deborah will teach participants to weave these ancient belts in a choice of colours.

Throughout the session, Deborah will give a sense of the countless possibilities achievable using simple vernacular tools and the most basic of materials. It will allow for a fully participatory creative group practice workshop, with a take-away piece at the end of the session.

This workshop forms part of the Public programme for Laura Wilson’s solo exhibition at CCA which references weaving, textile and process. Participants will have the opportunity to view the exhibition before and after the workshop.

Tickets are limited and booking is essential. You can book your free place through CCA’s online shop here. This event is suitable for 18+.
