Design Your Own Radio Station
CCA kicks off the term with a new School's Programme workshop by Ballads of Rhinestones & Newcomers' artists Tom O'Dea and Frank Sweeney. The artists have devised Design Your Own Radio Station, a workshop that encourages the children to think about broadcasting, community and identity, through the guise of designing an imaginary radio station. This page is for the children taking part in our activity.
Firstly, we would like to say a very big welcome to our school children, we hope that you had a fun summer and we look forward to working with you over the year. This page will give you an outline of the workshop to help you know more about what you are doing. The workshop consists of an introduction video, activity worksheet and a recording session.
Tom and Frank introduce the concepts of radio, broadcast, listener and station identity in the specially produced video below. You will see images of radio station identities and audio examples of station radio stings. The worksheet that your teacher will hand out includes questions about who your listeners are, where are they located and asks who else can hear your radio station. Finally, you will consider what choice of music you will play and give your radio station an identity. The workshop then invites you to record an audio sting/introduction for your radio station. You can download your own printable worksheet here.
We look forward to hearing more about your radio station ideas and tag your activity with @CCADLD
