in your hands - Performance workshops
As part of Urgencies, choreographer Hamish MacPherson will be running a number of performance workshops. From these he will make a new film to feature in the exhibition.
For several years Hamish has been working with stillness, care and passivity through workshops, performances and publications*. For in your hands, participants will be filmed carefully wrapping another person in materials and then being wrapped by someone else.
The workshops are open to anyone aged 18+. No experience of performance is necessary but Hamish is interested in collaborating with different ‘body specialists’ who have their own expertise in touching, moving and handling people. These might include carers, police/security staff, BDSM practitioners or bondage riggers, dancers, doctors, parents and guardians, first aiders, martial artists, masseurs, removals people, nurses, physiotherapists, sculptors, undertakers, vets and wrestlers. If you’re not one of these you are still welcome.
The workshops will last three hours and will involve discussions on consent and boundaries and time to practice the action before the filming. Participants will be in control of their experience but it is expected that they will be comfortable with lying still for up to half an hour, being touched or moved, and being completely covered at points.
Workshop dates and times:
16, 17, 18 february
10am-1pm | 2-5pm | 6-9pm
