School's Programme: Memory Rock

We are delighted to share our latest School's Programme workshop for the Reciprocal Residency Solo Exhibitions. Artist educator Eibhlín Morrison has developed an activity for the children to do in the gallery. Eibhlín was drawn to the themes of both artists' work, including conversation, memory and rock formations.

Inspired by the work of exhibiting artists Roisín McGuigan, based in Northern Ireland and Ieva Kotryna Ski, based in Lithuania, the children will make their own memory rocks. In small groups the children will sit around their tables and use prompts to begin a conversation. On a sheet of paper, they will write or draw to record these details. Each child will have the materials to make their own rock shapes. They will use liquid glue to cover their rocks with brown, black, orange and red tissue paper and torn fragments of their recorded details. The colours are inspired by the photograph Dyke#1, 2024 by Ieva Kotryna Ski. Each child will have made their own memory rock that holds all the things they've talked about around their table.
