Sharing Day with CCA Research Associates

Join us on Tuesday 27 June 2023, from 6pm as we welcome Ben Weir and Marie-Andrée Pellerin, Francis Worrall-Campbell and Sinéad Bhreathnach-Cashell, members of the 2021 Research Associate Cohort to CCA. The artists will be giving an informal presentation of their practices and performances.

This sharing day is open to the public, and we're excited to welcome you to the gallery to follow what our Associates have been up to!

During the Sharing Day, Ben Weir will show the initial stages of his current research project that looks at the 18th century phenomenon of the Hermitage within English landscape gardening in Ireland. Departing from on-site investigation of the only two remaining examples of these garden buildings in Northern Ireland, the project discusses themes of land occupation, landlordism, Romanticism and the notion of wilderness.

Artist Marie-Andrée Pellerin is a linguist and sound artist based in the year 2137. During the session, she will be introducing my fictive discipline: "speculative phonetics", which aims at expanding the concept of language beyond a solely human ability. The discipline is bringing together experimental linguistics with sound art and a speculative mode of awareness. Marie-Andrée has been looking at neologisms, such as the "voise", made from voice and noise, and "Blowrder", from blow and border/order.

Artists Sinéad Bhreathnach-Cashell will present a project that she is currently working on called Borders of Brexit. The project, still in its early stages, sets out to understand Brexit by turning it into set dancing (Irish dancing).
